Spokespeople
Brigadier Peter Monteith MBE
Chief Operating Officer – ABF The Soldiers’ Charity 
Brigadier Peter Monteith joined ABF The Soldiers’ Charity as Chief of Staff in March 2021 and became Chief Operating Officer in September 2022. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Charity and is Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
Peter joined the charity after a full career in the Regular Army. Born and brought up in Northern Ireland he read Modern History at Magdalen College, Oxford, before attending Sandhurst and commissioning into the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment (West Riding), a Yorkshire recruited infantry unit, in 1988. Peter served with ‘The Dukes’ from the arctic to the jungles of Belize and deployed on operational service in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. Promoted to Colonel in 2014 and Brigadier in 2018 Peter worked on the staff in Army HQ, the Army Personnel Centre in Glasgow and most recently in the MOD.
Peter is a graduate of the Australian Staff College and the US War College and has Masters degrees in Defence Administration and Strategic Studies. A confirmed sports fan, Peter is an avid follower of the Irish rugby team, the English cricket team and Leeds United – he is used to disappointment. He enjoys outdoor pursuits although, having completed the Marathon des Sables, he now prefers something somewhat gentler, preferably with his puppy, ‘Boots’.
Peter currently lives just outside Bath with his partner Julie, who also works in the charity sector, for Victims’ Support. He is a Trustee of the Yorkshire Regiment’s Charity and a former mentor for Oxford University’s ‘Pathways to Success’ Programme in association with Operation Black Vote.
